Dr. Gorman
Dr. Gorman is our Senior Optometrist with over 40 years of service in the community. Dr. Gorman received his undergraduate degree from UCONN and his doctorate from New England College of Optometry in Boston. He serves as President of Connecticut Visual Health Center which provides continuing education for Optometrists in Connecticut. His passion for providing continuing education is second only to his passion for excellence in patient care. Dr. Gorman loves group practice, sharing therapies and patient outcomes of challenging cases to all the doctors at Family Vision Center. He believes this enhances each doctors experience and leads to better care for our patients. Dr. Gorman is a native of the Bridgeport area and enjoys tennis, golf and watching the UCONN soccer and basketball teams. He currently lives in Trumbull with his wife. He has 3 daughters and 9 grandchildren.
Dr. Shawn Burns
Dr. Shawn Burns practices in both our Stratford and Bridegport offices. Dr. Burns received his doctorate from the New England College of Optometry in 1999. He also obtained a degree in Chemistry from Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia, Canada in 1995. Dr. Burns enjoys seeing patients of all ages. Dr. Burn says, "Family Vision Center is a satisfying and fulfilling environment in which to practice optometry both and professionally and personally. I can diagnose and treat patients with the latest technology and get to know them and their family." When not in the office, Dr. Burns loves spending time with his family playing golf and is an avid hockey fan. He lives in Milford with his wife and 2 daughters.
Dr. Helen Ambizas
Dr. Helen Ambizas works part-time in the Bridgeport office. She has been practicing optometry for almost 10 years and received her optometric degress from the New England College of Optometry. She completed her B.S. in Biology in Binghamton University in upstate New York. Dr. Ambizas understands that every patient has different visual demands placed upon them throughout the day and offers solutions that are unique to each patient and their lifestyle. She says, "Family Vision Center exceeds the standard of care with the latest technology available to the patient. This allows me to treat ocular disease earlier and more accurately. Patient education is key to treating any ocular disease." She lives in Milford with her husband and two daughters. She enjoys outdoor activities with her family.
Dr. Gretchen Ohlig
Dr. Gretchen Ohlig practices in both our Stratford and Bridgeport offices. Dr. Ohlig graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst with a BS in microbiology. She received her doctorate from SUNY College of Optometry in 1993. Dr. Ohlig comes to us after having practiced in two cataract and refractive surgical centers. She is experienced at handling patients full scope eye care needs including complete eye examinations, fitting of specialty contact lenses, conducting pre-op and post-op testing for cataract and Lasik patients, evaluating and treating dry eye and diagnosing and managing ocular disease. Family Vision Center affords Dr. Ohlig the opportunity to offer a wide range of eye care services by offering the latest technology available. She lives in Fairfield County with her family.
Dr. Sean West
Dr. Sean West practices in both our Stratford and Bridgeport offices. Dr. West received his BS in Biology with minor in Chemistry from California State University, Stanislaus in 1998 and his doctorate from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago. Dr. West has spent the last 10 years practicing in California and is very excited to be in Connecticut and joining Family Vision Center. Dr. West practices full scope optometry including general exams; difficult contact lens fits and treats many common eye diseases. Dr. West states, "Family Vision Center provides a great family atmosphere that offers the latest in diagnostic equipment from scanning laser images to fundus photography enabling us to detect eye conditions early and monitor them at a higher level not always offered at other practices." He is also a certified Ortho-K practitioner which is the process of molding the eye with contacts to correct your vision while you sleep, without the need for glasses or contacts during the day! Dr. West currently lives in Shelton and enjoys outdoor activities with his wife and 2 boys.
