What is done during the laser vision correction procedure?
Laser vision correction is a fairly quick and painless procedure. During the procedure a flap is lifted by the surgeon to reveal the eyes inner corneal tissue. After the corneal tissue is revealed a cool laser light is used to reshape the inner layers of the cornea and the flap is than replace to its original position. The procedure typically takes only a few minutes of which the patient might feel slightly uncomfortable but should feel no pain. The eyes may also feel irritated but the irritation and uncomfortable feelings should subside over the next few hours.
What is the recovery period for Laser Vision Correction?
While blurry vision is usually experienced for a few hours after surgery, vision is typically restored over the next couple days and the results can be seen shortly after. Although results can be seen fairly quickly, it takes some time for the eye to fully heal and patients should be careful with their eyes for a few weeks. The eye flap that was lifted and replaced during the procedure will heal securely into place after a few months. Follow up appointments with the surgeon and/or your eye doctor is necessary to make sure the eyes are healing properly.
